We tested 8 alternatives against the jobs Clearscope users actually pay for: content grading, briefs, term recommendations and reporting. We priced each at current rates, verified October 1, 2026. Our top pick is SaagaSolve. Clearscope grades the draft. SaagaSolve grades the gap, drafts the fix, publishes it and reports on it, from $0 to $129/mo.
Clearscope itself is excellent at one job. It's the cleanest content grader on the market, with unlimited users on every plan and a 4.9 on both G2 and Capterra. This page covers the other jobs your team has.
Why teams leave Clearscope
1. The pricing ladder, and a draft cap that never moves. Essentials runs $129/mo for 50 tracked queries, 50 pages and 20 monthly Drafts. Business runs $399/mo for 300 tracked queries and 300 pages. Enterprise is custom. All of this is on Clearscope's pricing page.
Business still includes 20 Drafts a month. Extra drafts cost $50 each on Essentials and $20 each on Business. Extra pages run $25/mo (Essentials) or $15/mo (Business). There's no free plan, only a 14-day trial.
Reviewers say it plainly. "The part that could be better is the pricing structure. For smaller teams or occasional users, the cost feels a bit high considering the number of credits or reports included." That's Vishal K., Tech SEO Lead, on G2, January 2026.
The grading itself earns praise. "We like it best to create content brief fast. It easily brought down the time it took us to create briefs by 70-80%." — Ashitha J., Content Marketing Manager, G2, January 2023.
2. It grades. It doesn't do anything with the grade. Clearscope gives you an A–F score and a term list. Drafting, publishing and monitoring happen somewhere else. It doesn't publish. It doesn't run an agent loop. It doesn't bundle keyword or backlink research data. It's a grading-and-reports tool, not a grade-and-execute tool.
Clearscope alternatives at a glance
Competitor prices verified October 2026.
The alternatives fall into three camps. NeuronWriter and Frase are cheaper graders. Surfer, Scalenut and Outranking are workflow suites. MarketMuse and PageOptimizer Pro are specialists. SaagaSolve is built to cover all three jobs.
1. SaagaSolve: Best for teams that need to find the gap, write the fix and ship it
SaagaSolve is an AI agent platform for marketing teams. It covers SEO, content, paid and sales work in one workspace, with the data already connected. It's the only entry here that takes a content gap from diagnosis to published page without leaving the platform.
Content gaps. The content gap analyzer shows where your pages fall short of what's ranking. Where Clearscope hands you a grade, SaagaSolve hands that gap to an agent. The keyword research tool and site health checker sit in the same workspace. Nothing gets exported to another subscription.
Drafting, humanizing, publishing, reporting. Agents write the draft, humanize it and publish it. Then they report on how it performs. Clearscope stops at the grade. Everything after it, SaagaSolve does.
Ahrefs data, natively. Ahrefs is one of SaagaSolve's 63 native integrations, connected via direct API. It's already in the platform, not something you bring yourself. Semrush works the same way. You don't buy a second research subscription to feed it.
This isn't a 1-for-1 swap. SaagaSolve doesn't just trade Clearscope's grader for a slightly different grader. It delivers the data plus the agents that act on it: writing, humanizing, publishing, reporting, paid and sales. Clearscope is one job. Your team has the whole list.
How the suite is built. There are 15 tools across 3 phases, 63 native integrations, and 150+ LLM models live (315 in the catalog). You can build custom agent workflows on top. Laura Cardona, Director of SEO at Dymic Digital, put it this way: "Most SEO tools force you into their workflow. With SAAGA Solve you can build custom agent workflows for anything you can imagine. It's saving us AT LEAST 15 hours per week."
Proof. Steven, CEO & Founder of Opollo, says: "It's already saving us AU$120K per year." In the audit case study, a manual audit took 16 hours and about $2,400. An agent run took 8 minutes plus a 1-hour review, about $170. That's $2,230 saved and roughly 93% faster.
Pricing (verified October 1, 2026):
- Free: $0, plus a one-time $5 LLM credit
- Starter: $20/mo, plus $10/mo LLM credit
- Pro: $129/mo, plus $64.50/mo LLM credit
- Enterprise Catalyst: $1,500/mo plus $64.50/seat
- Annual billing saves up to 15%
The stack math. Clearscope Essentials is $129/mo for 20 drafts. SaagaSolve Pro is $129/mo for the whole loop. Against Clearscope Business at $399/mo, Pro is $270/mo less. That's $3,240 a year, about 68%. Starter at $20/mo undercuts Essentials by $109/mo, about 84%. These are plan sticker prices, not feature-for-feature equivalents. SaagaSolve's grading depth is a different product from Clearscope's A–F editor.
Rating: 4.9/5 from 67 reviews, per saagasolve.com.
Cons: SaagaSolve is the new kid on the block. Clearscope has been a trusted grader for years, and that kind of trust takes time. Our review base reflects it: 4.9/5 from 67 reviews, against Clearscope's 4.9 from 92 on G2. The rating is high. The sample is small.
Who it's for: Marketing leads and SEO managers who are tired of paying for a grade and then doing the rest by hand.

2. Surfer SEO: Best for SERP-driven editing with keyword research bundled
Surfer pairs a SERP-based content editor with keyword research and AI writing. Its scoring leans on what page-one results have in common. Clearscope's grade leans on term relevance.
Pricing (Surfer pricing, verified October 1, 2026, yearly-billed rates only; annual saves up to 17% vs monthly):
- Discovery: $49/mo billed yearly, 120 document caps
- Standard: $99/mo billed yearly, 360 docs
- Pro: $182/mo billed yearly, 360 docs
- Peace of Mind: $299/mo billed yearly, unlimited docs
- AI Search Analytics add-on: $82/mo
- 7-day trial, no free plan
Rating: G2 4.8/5 (546 reviews). Capterra 4.9/5 (422 reviews).
Pros:
- Full SERP-correlation content editor
- Keyword research and topical maps bundled
- AI writing at every tier
- The largest G2 review base on this list
Gap vs Clearscope: It bundles research and writing that Clearscope doesn't, but every plan except the top one caps documents. There's no unlimited-everything model.
Cons: Yearly-billed pricing hides the true monthly commitment. The $82/mo add-on stacks on top. Support complaints are on record, including Jacob K. on G2 in May 2026: "Their customer service is very, very bad. They can never get back to you to help you with any issues you may have."
Who it's for: In-house SEO teams that want optimization and keyword research in one subscription and can live with document caps.
3. Frase: Best for lean teams that want briefs, drafts and publishing cheaply
Frase is the cheapest credible entry on the list. It builds briefs, drafts content and publishes directly to WordPress, Webflow, Sanity and Wix. Clearscope can't publish anywhere.
Pricing (Frase pricing, verified October 1, 2026, yearly/monthly):
- Starter: $39/mo yearly, $49 monthly
- Professional: $103/mo yearly, $129 monthly
- Scale: $239/mo yearly, $299 monthly
- No free plan. The 7-day trial is capped at 5 articles, 50 audit pages and 25 AI prompts.
- FraseCMS is free up to 100K page views a month.
- Content Guard page caps run 10 / 75 / 300. Overages run $5 per article and $0.50 per audit page on Professional ($4 and $0.40 on Scale), and only apply if you switch on pay-as-you-go.
Rating: G2 4.8/5 (311 reviews).
Pros:
- Native publishing to four CMSs
- Answer-engine and Content Guard monitoring
- Lowest entry price among the workflow tools
Gap vs Clearscope: Frase publishes, but its scoring is built on SERP summaries and runs shallower than Clearscope's term grading. Overage fees replace Clearscope's credit model with usage penalties.
Cons: No free plan. The trial is heavily capped. Overages punish volume. Scoring depth sits below Clearscope's.
Who it's for: Solo operators and lean content teams that want one cheap tool from brief to published post.
4. MarketMuse: Best for content strategists planning authority across hundreds of pages
MarketMuse is the strategy layer. It models topic authority across a whole content inventory, which Clearscope doesn't attempt. Siteimprove acquired it in October 2024.
Pricing (MarketMuse pricing, verified October 1, 2026):
- Free: $0 for 1 user and 10 queries a month, no briefs
- Optimize, Research and Strategy tiers are demo-gated. Capterra reports $99 / $249 / $499 (Capterra-reported, not vendor-published).
- Brief caps run 5 / 10 / 20 across the paid tiers.
Rating: G2 4.6/5 (216 reviews). Capterra 4.6/5 (28 reviews).
Quote: One Clearscope reviewer on G2 compared the two directly. Nelaka F., Manager, March 2024: "Compared to certain competing tools like MarketMuse, Clearscope's KW suggestions sometimes aren't optimal for ranking at the top of Google SERPs."
Pros:
- The deepest topical-authority and inventory planning in the category
- One of only two real free plans on this list
- Enterprise-grade research
Gap vs Clearscope: MarketMuse plans the strategy, but it doesn't draft or publish. The free tier produces no briefs.
Cons: Paid pricing is opaque. The free tier is research-only. Capterra's 28 reviews is the lowest count among the established tools here. The roadmap after the Siteimprove acquisition is uncertain.
Who it's for: Content strategists mapping authority across a large site, not writers optimizing one draft.
5. NeuronWriter: Best for budget NLP-term optimization at volume
NeuronWriter has NLP-term scoring and Google Search Console integration at a fraction of Clearscope's price. The entry is $19–$23 against Clearscope's $129.
Pricing (NeuronWriter pricing, verified October 1, 2026, monthly/yearly):
- Bronze: $23 / $19
- Silver: $45 / $37
- Gold: $69 / $57
- Platinum: $93 / $77
- Diamond: $117 / $97
- Content analyses run 25 / 50 / 75 / 100 / 150 per tier.
- AI Monitoring add-on from $9/mo
- 7-day Gold-terms trial, 30-day money-back refund
Rating: G2 4.4/5 (31 reviews). Capterra 4.9/5 (17 reviews).
Pros:
- The lowest full ladder on the list, $19–$117
- NLP term scoring plus GSC data
- A 30-day refund window
Gap vs Clearscope: The term recommendations and data depth are thinner. The review base is small and unproven at enterprise scale.
Cons: Its review bases are among the smallest on the list. Its 4.4 G2 rating is the lowest here. Analysis caps apply on every tier. There's no publishing automation.
Who it's for: Freelancers and small agencies optimizing a lot of pages on a tight budget.
6. Scalenut: Best for high-volume generate-and-publish content
Scalenut combines keyword planning, AI drafting and auto-publishing. Clearscope doesn't attempt any of that.
Pricing (Scalenut pricing, verified October 1, 2026). The headline annual figures are promotional:
- Starter: $59/mo standard (5 articles) or $24/mo promotional annual (10 articles)
- Plus: $89/mo standard (30 articles) or $36/mo promotional annual (60 articles)
- Professional: $199/mo standard (75 articles) or $80/mo promotional annual (150 articles)
- 7-day trial, no free plan
- Auto-publish to WordPress and Shopify on Plus and above
Rating: G2 4.7/5 (315 reviews).
Pros:
- Auto-publish to WordPress and Shopify
- Keyword cluster planning included
- A large G2 review base
Gap vs Clearscope: It covers planning, drafting and publishing, but its content scoring is less rigorous. Article caps govern every tier.
Cons: Promotional annual pricing sits well below the standard rates. Article caps apply everywhere. There's no free plan. Scoring depth trails Clearscope's.
Who it's for: High-volume content teams that want automation from keyword to live page.
7. Outranking: Best for teams willing to evaluate a research-to-draft workflow through sales
Outranking frames itself as a strategy-to-draft workflow with SERP briefs and step-by-step optimization. That goes beyond single-report grading.
Pricing: Not public. Outranking's pricing page resolves to its homepage as of October 1, 2026, so pricing is sales-gated.
Rating: Capterra 4.4/5 (16 reviews).
Pros:
- Full workflow framing: research, brief, draft, optimize
- Strategy features beyond single-report grading
Gap vs Clearscope: The workflow is broader, but you can't comparison-shop it the way you can Clearscope. With sales-gated pricing and 16 Capterra reviews, it's the least verifiable option here.
Cons: Pricing isn't public. It has the smallest Capterra review base on the list, 16, and the lowest Capterra rating, 4.4.
Who it's for: Teams that don't mind a sales call to see whether a workflow tool fits.
8. PageOptimizer Pro: Best for technical SEOs optimizing one page at a time
PageOptimizer Pro (POP) is a single-page on-page tool. It covers term placement, EEAT scoring, schema recommendations and Watchdog SERP-change monitoring. Clearscope offers none of those. Clearscope grades a whole content program, while POP optimizes one URL at a time.
Pricing (live vendor page, verified October 1, 2026):
- Basic: $40/mo billed monthly, 20 credits a month
- Unlimited: $72/mo monthly or $62/mo billed annually, 50 credits a month
- Teams: $143/mo monthly or $119/mo billed annually, 120 credits a month, 5 sub-accounts
- White Glove done-for-you service from $275
- Credit bundles never expire.
- No free plan and no free trial. There's a 7-day refund guarantee and a free no-signup demo.
Ratings: G2 4.9/5 (5 reviews). Capterra 5.0/5 (73 reviews).
Quotes (all Capterra):
- "Have been using it for my agency and my clients for the last 60 days and we have gotten way better insights on our onsite structure than SEMrush which has been our go to for a decade." Jonathan J., CEO, January 2026.
- "I like how it puts the whole process of content creation into a single process. Saves me a lot of time." Jason L., owner, September 2026.
- "It's a lot to learn and the credits disappear very fast. I wish it was just a regular monthly subscriptions without credits." Renaud G., COO, April 2025.
Pros:
- Test-based methodology
- Unlimited domains on every plan
- Watchdog SERP monitoring
- An AI Visibility Tracker across ChatGPT, Google AI, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity
- 61 languages
Gap vs Clearscope: There's no content-inventory grading at scale and no publishing pipeline.
Cons: Credits burn fast, and several reviewers flag it. There's a learning curve. The G2 base is tiny, at 5 reviews.
Who it's for: Technical SEOs and agencies who live in on-page detail.
Is there a truly free alternative to Clearscope?
Clearscope has no free plan. You get a 14-day trial, and paid plans start at $129/mo.
Here's what "free" means across the market:
- MarketMuse has a real free plan: 1 user and 10 queries a month. It produces no briefs, so it's research only.
- Frase has no free plan, but FraseCMS is free up to 100K page views a month.
- PageOptimizer Pro offers a free no-signup demo and a 7-day refund guarantee. It has no trial.
- Surfer, NeuronWriter and Scalenut offer 7-day trials. NeuronWriter adds a 30-day refund window.
- Outranking has no public trial terms.
Only two tools here have a real free plan, and only one of them includes the full agent platform. SaagaSolve's free plan costs $0 and comes with a one-time $5 LLM credit. You can start free, run the content gap analysis and see the workflow before paying anything. Starter is $20/mo when you need more.
